Best photos of 2018

Wow, this is somewhat surprising...and somewhat not.

I'm going to breakdown these photos on why I think they were the most liked photos of 2018. (The list will be in the order of left to right, top to bottom.)
  • It's very rare I share photos of myself, but this one was posted 13 days after brain surgery, explaining what happened, and that I'd be okay. The support I received was incredible. <3
  • Final photo of my 100 Day Project. Again, I don't share photos of me often, but my experience with social media is that it shows me way more support and love than anything else.
  • Megan Leigh Barnard took this portrait of me at Wonderball at Columbus Museum of Art.
  • A repost! Beginning in the Middle does truly stellar home renovation work and I am not surprised it received so much love!
  • A portrait of Allie Lehman was taken by me at Wonderball at Columbus Museum of Art. (I'm going to say this is definitely because of her beauty and not my skill!)
  • One of my favorite shoots this year was with Mello, a local athleisure company making the most dreamy yoga pants you could ever imagine. You should probably buy some. Now.
  • This photo was taken inside the bakery at Harrod's in London during a visit in February. (Who doesn't LOVE bread? Carbs!)
  • As I was about to walk out the door on a two-week trip to Europe with my mom, I took a photo of my ban.dō passport wallet. :)
  • Who doesn't love Mission Coffee Co.? No one, that's who.

Happy Friday, and Happy New Year! I hope you have a wonderful 2019!

I only like photography 25% of the time

"Woah, what does that even mean?!"

Was that your reaction? Are you shocked?

Are you reconsidering hiring me after reading this? If so, I can't blame you! Who would want a photographer with no passion for their craft? Give me a second to explain.
Picture
Actual photography is about 25% of what I do - and I have passion for 100% - here's the breakdown:

25% photography: Taking photos and editing them (most people think this is all photographers do).

25% business: Marketing, communications, project management, being a webmaster, accounting and finance, etc. So many things are involved in running a business - and I love all of them.

25% education: What's happening right now? I'm educating you. I very much enjoy the process of sharing details, tips, and information about my industry.

25% relationships: Don't tell the other 3, but this is actually my favorite part of my business. If you know me, you're aware that I'm an extrovert and enjoy spending time with people. I get to do that professionally during meetings/consultations, shoots, and even just chatting at local events. And sometimes, clients become friends and friends become clients. It's truly magical.

Happy Friday!

How to get same-day photos from a photographer

12/14/2018

First of all, I must say that my "secret tip" to getting same-day images will not work for every photographer. I only speak for myself!

Recently, I realized that it's my job to educate my clients on how long they have to wait for me to send photos after a shoot. Many people (based on experiences with other photographers) expect to wait a few weeks.

I promise I'm not throwing ANY shade whatsoever to other photographers. It's just that my workload is structured in a way where I normally get all images to clients within about 24-72 hours of the shoot.

But what if there's a huge NEED for images on the same day? Even during the shoot? For example, what if the company is hosting a huge event launching a big business deal? Photos need to be posted to social media like..now! Well in that case, a friend said it best...

When it was announced Crew SC would stay in Columbus, quick event photos for social were needed!
"With proper communication and planning, I can get you an image during an event." -- Andy Gottesman, Gottesman Photography
So the secret tip is using communication and planning? Yep. Here's some extra info and tips:
  1. As Andy said, communication and planning ahead of time is necessary for this to work. Last-minute requests may not be possible.
  2. What can be expected? This varies. If I was asked for all fully edited and processed photos within 30 minutes of the shoot ending, I likely couldn't commit to that - especially without the promise of WiFi! But one image during the shoot for social media? Sure, that's likely possible.
  3. The further ahead of time such a request is made, the more likely it is that a photographer will comply - simply because they are able to plan for it and bring any gear or equipment they might need to fulfill the request.

As always, I hope this is helpful information about how to work with your photographer for the best results possible!

Happy Friday!

Sometimes I can't. Does that make me a bad photographer?
