I feel hurt because you don't value this at all

I was recently talking to Brandi (a great, very close friend of mine who is also self-employed) and she was sharing how she felt about a conversation with a past client.

They had a great relationship until the client asked her for free work on an upcoming project. Brandi took the time to craft a very kind email explaining why she wouldn't be able to proceed with the project in that way.

Even though she knew she did the right thing, she really wished she could have said how she was actually feeling...

This is likely something we all feel at some point (not just self-employed people). As we communicate with others, let's consider what we are asking for and how it might affect them. The more we show others that we truly value them (verbally, financially, emotionally, etc.), the more we are likely to continue positive relationships.

How do you show others you value them? Comment below!

Happy Friday!

This is so true! A wise manager when I was in my first supervising role once told me 2 valuable pieces of advice .... - "There are two things you do not mess with when you are responsible for a team. 1) Their money (as a supervisor you always make sure if something in your role has to be done to ensure that payroll is approved, benefits submitted, etc. You never do anything to disrespect their requests or needs regarding their income) 2) Their children (when someone needs time off for children, family or any other dependents, above all other requests you do everything in your power to accommodate)
I took this seriously and keeping those 2 values has helped me remember to respect people's financial needs (in every area of life) as if they were my own and also requests for schedule accommodations with family needs.

Definitely great info from your manager! And clearly you're passing it along to others - which I love! People not only communicating value, but HELPING others in this regard is incredible. :)
